We’d like to give a very hearty welcome to Rod Turner as the newest member of the Famundo team.
I am very pleased to be working with the Famundo team,” said Turner. “I have been watching them for a while, and I have observed that they are absolutely dedicated to making a big difference in the family and group scheduling market, in part by listening closely to what the customer wants, and then satisfying the customers by providing it through Famundo’s innovative products and services. I expect great success for Famundo.
Rod comes to us with an impressive pedigree. Rod was formerly CEO of Knowledge Adventure, which you may know was a pioneer in the development of multimedia educational software, and played a key role in building two software industry giants, Symantec Corporation (SYMC) and Ashton-Tate.
During his more than eight years as Symantec’s executive vice president and as the general manager of its Peter Norton Utilities Group, Rod was pivotal in growing revenues from zero to $250 million per year and in the company’s 1989 initial public offering (IPO). He launched the Norton AntiVirus in 1992.
As the first vice president at Ashton-Tate, Rod was instrumental in establishing dBASE as the PC industry’s standard for database management, and in the company’s IPO in 1983.
Rod was also a seed investor in AskJeeves.com, which had a successful 1999 IPO.
We are delighted to have Rod on the team.

This is a project I have been following for a while now and find it interesting that the the nonprofit One Laptop per Child project may reverse its previous position of not distributing their kid-friendly laptops in the United States.
We can’t ignore the United States. ... We are looking at it very seriously,” Nicholas Negroponte, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology academic who founded the project, told analysts and reporters.
The machines would go at a higher price to U.S. schools, he said, because more resources are invested in American education than in developing nations, even in the poorest U.S. regions.

Now that tax time is over, I decided it was time to upgrade my aging version of Quicken. While I was on the Quicken web site, I saw that they have a new product out called Quicken Kids and Money.
I was tempted to demo it, but then noticed that it is geared for kids age 5 through 8, and my kids are well beyond that.
Anyway, after looking over the description, it didn’t seem like they were offering very much for the $69.99 per year they are charging for this product.
It seems that there is a lot of free information out there, such as The Mint, which will do basically the same thing.
Anyone have any experience with Quicken Kids and Money, let us know what you think.

I just received an e-mail from someone asking how effective Famundo would be in managing a shared parenting situation.
Because of Famundo’s has different permission levels, it is ideal for use in a shared parenting arrangement.
Since Famundo is internet based, both parents have access to the same Famundo site. Each parent can view their childrens’ schedules, so they know when they are available, when they need a ride or to be picked up. And, if their schools are using Famundo, their school schedules are filled in automatically, so neither parent has the chore of inputting the daily schedule.
But, since each parent has their own login, they can have their own private events, lists and documents.
If you have any questions on using Famundo, please send me an e-mail at the address found on this page.
