An interesting turn of events

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Sun, 09 Jul 2006 02:05:00 GMT

I’m not really sure what this means? Is this a sign of things to come?

The Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel has just purchased MilwaukeeMoms.com for an undisclosed sum.

Read the press release here.

MilwaukeeMoms.com was launched in 2002 as a resource and networking community for parents and caregivers raising kids ages 0-6 years.

This certainly seems to validate family/parenting blogs. Anyone have any thoughts on this event?

Staying Classy in San Diego

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Sun, 09 Jul 2006 01:11:00 GMT

Sorry I haven’t posted recently, but I have been “staying classy” at the NECC (National Educational Computing Conference) in San Diego, and had nothing but trouble getting internet access in my hotel room. (my nightmare hotel experience could be the subject of another article sometime in the future, but I won’t bore you with the details here)

NECC was a huge show and Famundo created quite a buzz. I didn’t have much time to visit the other exhibitors, since we were so busy, so I really don’t have any new finds to report about.

It seems that there were a ton of CMS {Classroom Management System) solutions. One thing I want to make clear is that Famundo for Organizations is not a replacement for CMS, but rather an enhancement. We are the outward facing solution, the organizations face to the public, whether that be parents, students, parishoners, or whatever.

The idea behind Famundo is that the more organizations in you community that use Famundo, the easier it will be for you to aggregate the events that are important to you into your personal Famundo for Families calendar.

What we are about is building stronger, closer communities, one calendar at a time. The more organizations in your community that use Famundo, the more connected your community will become. There were a number of attendees at the conference that not only want to use Famundo for their schools, but also for their churches, scout troops and soccer teams.

Let your community organizations know about Famundo. The can sign up now by visiting the following link: Sign Up Here.

Happy 4th of July!

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Tue, 04 Jul 2006 00:31:00 GMT

Happy 4th of July to everyone. I may be taking the day off tomorrow, (or maybe the muse will strike, you never know.)

There is a parade that goes down our street in the afternoon which has been a family tradition since before our daughter was born, 11 years ago, and then fireworks at the local high school in the evening.

On Wednesday, we are off to the NECC (National Educational Computing Conference) in San Diego, where again we will be demoing our newly released version of Famundo for Organizations. The response has been VERY positive so far.

We’ll be releasing an update very soon with lots of new features.

A little background on where we all came from. For the past 10 or so years, we have been deeply involved in producing a very successful application that enables businesses to manage their relationships (CRM, to be specific). After leaving our former company, we felt that since families are very similar to business workgroups, we could offer a solution that would dramatically benefit families in their family management. We coined it FRM, Family Relationship Management, and thus was born Famundo.

Our family version, Famundo for Families will be released very soon. To be informed of it’s release, sign up here.

Please let all the community organizations you are involved with like schools, churches, scout, etc, know about Famundo for Organizations. It is FREE and offers great fundraising opportunities.

More Dad stuff

Rebel Dad is a great blog. There is always something of interest there.

I found this site there, DaddyTypes , which offers product reviews for new and not-so-new parents.

It’s a good blog, bookmark it.

Got something to sell?

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Tue, 04 Jul 2006 00:12:00 GMT

A new web site Infant Exchange promises to be an alternative to eBay for child related merchandise.

“InfantExchange.com is a one of a kind online marketplace to buy, sell or exchange baby and childrens items. Our goal is to provide a platform that brings together willing sellers, buyers and swappers in an online marketplace, benefiting everyone involved.”

Kids grow out of things so quickly, a service like this makes perfect sense. I recently bought a pair of dress shoes for my son and before he had an opportunity to wear them, they were too small.

What are you going to do? Infant Exchange offers a solution.

An alternative to those sugary sports drinks

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Mon, 03 Jul 2006 23:50:00 GMT

I don’t know about you but I have really had it up to here with all those sugary sports drinks that are brought for snacks at soccer meets, baseball practices, etc.

Rudy’s Drinks has half the sugar of store brand sports drinks without sacrificing the taste.

According to their web site:

“With less than half the total grams of sugar found in other leading brands, Rudy Revolution cuts the sugar down to manageable levels without sacrificing great taste. Promoting a healthy lifestyle is the cornerstone of the Rudy line of beverages. A proprietary formula contains a high level of electrolytes, sea salt, maltodextrin (used in energy foods due to its quick absorption), vitamins (C, B6 and B12) and delivers superior re-hydration. Rudy Revolution is formulated to be a healthy sports energy drink targeting everyone concerned with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Rudy’s goal is to help people of all ages make the best choices. Rudy Revolution provides sustained energy, superior re-hydration and low sugar content.”

Check them out.

Reader’s Digest has some fun quotes on parenting by celebrities.

Some of my favorites:

What’s a good investment? Go home from work early and spend the afternoon throwing a ball around with your son. —Ben Stein on CNN

There is no such thing as “fun for the whole family.” —Jerry Seinfeld

BloggingBaby has a list of online mommy magazines.

Included are:

BrainChild Magazine

Mom Writer’s Literary Magazine

Literary Mama

I really feel they are missing half of the equation here. (e.g Dads!) Anyone know of some online Dad magazines?

Anyway, kudos to BloggingBaby for pointing these resources out.

Parenting in the 21st Century

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Sat, 01 Jul 2006 00:36:00 GMT

Michele Anciaux Aoki makes some excellent points in her Seattle Post-Intelligencer blog.

“Parenting in the 21st Century is larger than the “nuclear family.” It means caring for all of the children we have the opportunity to connect with in our lives as if they were our own. And when it comes to our own children, it means developing in them the commitment to care about others rather than focusing on themselves.”

I feel very fortunate that our kid’s schools that are extremely communicative with the families. I suspect there are many schools where parents don’t hear a word until grade time or when their kids are in trouble.

There is some very good stuff here. Read the whole thing

Bob

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Wed, 28 Jun 2006 01:00:00 GMT

One more quick post before I get back to work on Famundo, (we’re getting really busy!)

I came across a cute little product with the ulikely name of Bob.

Bob is an electronic time manager that works on all TV’s computers and video game systems. It seems simple to use, plug you device’s power cord into Bob and it turns the device off after their time is up.

It is password protected and supports up to 6 kids.

If time management is a concern, you should check out Bob.
