This is cute!

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Fri, 21 Jul 2006 00:07:32 GMT

I remember taking my kids to Chinese restaraunts when they were younger and getting the chop sticks with the rubber bands around them so they could pick up their food.

Now, via Perpetual Kid, we have Kid Sticks.

“These soft, washable, food-safe hinges really keep your chopsticks in line and add an element of fun to the dining experience. They come with a nice set of melamine chopsticks, or you can use them with your own. And they’re not just for kids either – The Perpetual Kid uses them!”

Lots of other cool things for kids on their site. Check them out.

Parenting of Adolescents

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Mon, 10 Jul 2006 23:17:04 GMT

Denise Whitmer has a very interesting column on About.com about parenting adolescents. Since most of the parenting blogs are focused on babies and toddlers, it is nice to find this site. After all, we parents of teens need at least as much advice on parenting.

Anyway, she has a recent article that has a survey the helps you determine whether or not your child is smoking

Click here to take the survey.

More Extreme Parenting

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Mon, 10 Jul 2006 23:03:00 GMT

More on the extreme parenting phenonenom.(hat tip I Speak of Dreams.)

There’s a new book coming out, Alissa Quart’s Hothouse Kids: The Dilemma of the Gifted Child (ISBN 1594200955).

Here’s an exerpt in the July/August issue of The Atlantic Monthly.

From the book:

“The vast giftedness industry has expanded to include such disparate phenomena as the teaching of baby sign language, the IQ testing of toddlers, and the proliferation of video programs like the Baby Einstein series. (Never mind that Einstein himself was a late bloomer; he didn’t speak until he was three, and no one thought him “gifted.”) Specialized camps and competitions are now enrolling the youngest of children; classes include soccer for three-year-olds and Broadway Babies for starlets of only six months.”

Highly recommended.

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Mon, 10 Jul 2006 02:07:00 GMT

This seems like a really promising site, Dads101.com is a resource for Single Dads. It is a place where single Dads can find useful information to help them become better fathers and better men.

There are a number of areas that still have no content, but it is worth keeping an eye on.
