Keeping a Family's Important Records Safe in a Natural Disaster

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Fri, 26 Oct 2007 22:58:00 GMT

The recent California wildfires demonstrate the importance of keeping a family’s vital records in a safe and secure place. Natural disasters can strike at any moment and as a result, a family can loose their important records forever.

Famundo provides a solution for keeping these records safe and secure with the Family Vault.

The Family Vault is a very secure area within Famundo’s Family Library for storing all the documents that are really important, like medical records, birth certificates and banking information. In the event of a disaster, you can rest assured that your data will be safe, secure and always available.

The Famundo Family Vault is more than just online storage. Users can be assured that their documents are encrypted with the same encryption that is used by the US Government for storing classified information, AES 256 encryption.

The password is NEVER stored anywhere in the client or the server computer. Thus in the unlikely event that the server is hacked, the data is still secure. There’s no way for an outsider to break in the vault data WITHOUT the password.

In addition, Famundo has a utility, the Famundo Assistant, which allows users to scan vital records, such as passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc., directly from their scanner into their Family Vault. With the new Famundo Assistant, these vital records never even touch the user’s computer, but are instantly moved to the safe and secure online storage.

True Stories - Keeping our distributed family in touch

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Thu, 04 Oct 2007 19:33:00 GMT

We are a very close family of seven adult children and our dad and are spread out all over the globe. We are using Famundo to keep our family in touch with each other and have found a lot of creative ways to use it.

Naturally we use the calendar to let everyone know if and when we are traveling. The Address Book is great for keeping the address and phone numbers of our mutual friends and family. We use the lists for projects that we are working on together and plan to use it for gift exchange help this Christmas. The photos albums are a real treat, each one of us uploads recent photos of our respective families. Thanks for making it easily for our family to stay closer!

True Stories - Managing our carpool

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Thu, 04 Oct 2007 18:14:00 GMT

We have been using Famundo to manage our carpool. There are four families involved and in the past we would get daily calls with questions about who is picking up in the morning or who is picking up after school.

We solved this problem by adding a carpool calendar to our Famundo site, with View access set to Public. Since the View access on the other items on our calendars is set to Family, only the carpool schedule is viewable by the public.

Now we set the carpool schedule over the weekend and enter the events for the upcoming week. If the schedule is the same, it is very easy to use Famundo’s Copy feature to copy events from one week to another.

Everyone else in the carpool has our public URL so they can pull up the calendar anytime they wish. We even have the phone numbers available in the events so if you need to call a driver, it is right there at your fingertips.

Here is a screen shot of our carpool calendar.

Adding Google Maps to Famundo Events

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Thu, 27 Sep 2007 14:44:00 GMT

You can add a Google map link to your events by simply entering the address where the event will occur in the Location field of the Add Event dialog box.

This will create a little icon in the event details which when clicked on, will bring up a Google map.

If you are logged in to Famundo and have entered your address in the Setup > My Settings > Personal Details tab, you will be given driving directions.

If your Personal Details is blank, or if you are a public viewer, you will be given a map of the location.
