Maya's Mom is Live!

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Wed, 25 Oct 2006 12:41:00 GMT

Back in April I mentioned a new collaborative parenting site that was soon coming online. Maya’s Mom has now officially launched.

Accordng to Ann, (Maya’s real mom and CEO), “We created Maya’s Mom so parents everywhere can find and share experiences and advice with each other—everything from separation anxiety to recipes, from finding the right tricycle to responding appropriately when your son grabs toys from other kids.

Its a great looking site and seems like it will be a valuable resource. Check it out!

A new Family 2.0 site, MothersClick.com officially launched yesterday! Congratulations!

After almost three months of development and user testing by invitation-only, our site already serves almost 200 groups and over 3,000 registered members.

Long Distance Learning

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Wed, 18 Oct 2006 13:19:00 GMT

First it was customer service, then technical support, now your children can be tutored by someone thousands of mile away in another country.

From today’s CNETNews:

The world of Web 2.0 and the global economy have merged once again, this time to deliver online tutoring sessions that can cost less than a tank of gas (though these days, that isn’t saying much).

And since we are on the subject of Family 2.0 ...

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Wed, 04 Oct 2006 01:06:08 GMT

Since we are on the subject of Family 2.0, I would love to get reader’s feedback on what they think Family 2.0 actually is?

I know the standard definitions. It has to do some collaboration or social networking. It has to do with the “Network as platform”, Ajax (allowing users to use applications entirely through a web-browser).

But does it have to be both? Does a site that is collaborative but relies on older web technology qualify as Family 2.0? Does a site that uses Ajax but is not collaborative qualify as being Family 2.0?

I would love to get reader’s feedback.

A new tag: Family 2.0

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Tue, 03 Oct 2006 23:27:27 GMT

I’ve added a new tag to the blog, Family 2.0 (many thanks to Rachel Cook of Talking tech on Family 2.0 for introducing me to the term).

It seems that there is more and more activity revolving around this idea, even Yahoo has validated it.

Of course, now I have to go back and retag the past articles that fit :-(

Nickelodeon starts social networking site for parents

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Tue, 03 Oct 2006 23:06:00 GMT

Nickelodeon has launched a new social networking site for parents according to this article in Online Media Daily.

The new site, ParentsConnect.com, is aimed at adults who grew up with the network at its launch 27 years ago and are now parents themselves, said Kyra Reppen, general manager of ParentsConnect.com and NickJr.com, owned by Nickelodeon parent MTV Networks.

Reppen said that the new site was part of a larger play toward parents. In December of last year, Nickelodeon purchased GoCityKids.com, a local listings site for kid-friendly activities, which now powers the local listings on ParentsConnect.com.

Minti's Fresh (sorry, I had to do that) New Face

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Wed, 17 May 2006 02:31:00 GMT

Minti, the parent to parent advice-opedia and community website, has just launched an update with a new look and feel in addition to the addition of some new features that enhance the experience for their community.

In addition to reading up other parent’s advice, you can now request advice, post to your own blog, upload photos, subscribe to content and lots of other cool things.

For sometime now, Minti had been a great place to find advice on a wide range of parenting topics. These new features only make it better.

Talking tech on Family 2.0

Posted by Richard Kuhlenschmidt Fri, 28 Apr 2006 13:26:00 GMT

I really love this blog! It’s a much needed and greatly appreciated addition to the web. It seems like almost on a weekly basis, there is a new product released that can take some of the stress and tedium out of parenting and family life. The problem is how do you find them and keep up with the latest?

The answer is Talking tech on Family 2.0 . Rachel Cook is a self-described web entrepreneur and social advocate has done a great job on keeping on top of the latest developments in web applications that relate to parenting and family life.

I mean, where else would you find information on a product like Trixie Tracker which is a great site for keeping track of the habits of your child?. Or Maya’s Mom, a soon to be released “collaborative/community resource for parenting“(techcrunch, April 2006)?

The whole Family 2.0 space is really getting exciting and Talking tech on Family 2.0 is the place to keep on top of it.

Keep it on your radar screens.
